Architecture is a new way to connect the world

Not sure how I missed this TED talk. Anyway, Thom Mayne was one of the founders of Morphosis, who were doing interesting things with asymmetric geometry or ‘deconstruction’, and actually getting it built, while people like Zaha Hadid were still just producing pretty drawings. Enjoy.

nature exists only as a construct? fairly sad (?) bifurcation of reality this uber-architect posits. but then i guess that’s what architects do.

i liked him, but felt all fg his designs were similar (his signature, fair enough) and GREY! I prefer the movement towards nature integration.

I agree about the grey/gray. When I worked in a ‘high tech’ architecture office I nearly got fired for spraying the Christmas Tree gray as a joke.
Although certain styles depend on neutralizing colors, I don’t see why the rather baroque Morphosis style does. Its something that makes their new municipal building in San Francisco, rather disappointing compared to the De Young.
