Death in Rome

A film about the murder of former Italian Prime Minister, Aldo Moro, by the Red Brigades in 1978. This was a seminal moment in Italy’s history, comparable to the assassination of JFK. Its also been the subject of so much fiction that its good to watch a documentary on the subject.

Thanks for this. A very interesting film. BBC 2 did a three part series on Operation Gladio a couple of years ago which provides an interesting context to these events, as does Daniele Ganser’s book ‘Nato’s Secret Armies: Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe’. These sources provide some persuasive evidence to suggest that elements within the Italian secret state were involved in developing strategy for the BR at this stage. There is also forensic evidence which suggests that the weapon used and the printing press were provided by Italian military intelligence.
It is a shame that this film isn’t more explicit in its references to Gladio and the strategy of tension which provide a really crucial context for these events.
In any case an informative film.
Thanks
