Richard Dawkins – The Genius of Charles Darwin

There should be plenty of things to watch about Darwin this year, as we mark 200 years since his birth, and 50 since the law (in the traditional sense) of Evolution by Natural Selection was first presented.

This is the first in a 3 part series, presented by Dawkins, with the following parts being shown on Channel 4 in the UK, next, and the following Monday.

Running time: 48 mins.

biography, science

Did anyone else find it rather shocking that some of those teenagers did not grasp or ‘believe’ in evolution? I would honestly expect that in America, being that the debate is more heated over there and theres a bigger christian influence – but i would have expected brits to be a little more educated about the subject!

What a sorry state the world is in.

The idea that evolution is dangerous has spread from the US to the UK, but to a lesser degree. After centuries of class and religious struggle, in Europe, the entire sub-continent is more skeptical of religion. That being said, state funded schools in the UK can be explicitly religious; there are publicly funded Muslim, Jewish and Christian schools which would be illegal in the US.
