Smooth meets Mr Smooth. Gene Kelly on Roller Skates

The adjective that comes to mind for Gene Kelly is smooth: smooth voice, smooth mover. That’s what I like so much about this; putting Kelly on roller skates is like adding polish to wax. The whole piece glides effortlessly, and its incredible to think that this camera tracking was possible in the mid 50s.

The roller skating scene in Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times is similarly graceful, despite its lack of singing.

What? You left out the Gene Kelley-led skating spectacular at the end of Xanadu? For shame.
p.s. Like you, I recently moved to SF from NYC. Not too bad of a transition. I work in Russian Hill. I’m still trying to figure out how to move to Geneva, though. Thanks for a great site!
