Popcorn was the classic electronic piece from the 60’s used countless times as backing music to represent modernity. Here, its composer, Gershon Kingsley, plays it today, on a concert grand. I love this. Below is the original for comparison.

An amateur pop promo made by people working at CERN in the 90s. The people in this video were the subject of the first ever photo on the web.
According to band member, Silvano de Gennaro:
“Back in 1992, after their show at the CERN Hardronic Festival, my colleague Tim Berners-Lee asked me for a few scanned photos of “the CERN girls” to publish them on some sort of information system he had just invented, called the “World Wide Web”. I had only a vague idea of what that was, but I scanned some photos on my Mac and FTPed them to Tim’s now famous “info.cern.ch”.”

Lev’s cartoons used to be the highlight of the most excellent Cole Valley Film Festival, when I lived in San Francisco. The technique is both original and simple, a monologue while drawing the cartoon, viewed from underneath back lighted paper, and the cartoons themselves are very good.

What could be more Swedish than IKEA? That’s what the Germans thought when making a commercial for IKEA Germany, so they decided to make fun of the Swedes and their midsummer traditional festival where they have a feast and dance around a maypole. Head office was not amused and banned it.

Owing to my piss-poor level of posting recently (I am now a father of one), Jim Nachlin will be spinning the decks here for a bit. Jim is one of the only people I know who has that trainspotter mentality that makes for a good digital curator.
Be Kind Rewind is about a guy who works in a video store who is magnetic, accidentally erases all the videos and decides to remake them himself. A bunch of French guys decided to do the same with the trailer for the movie itself. So deliciously meta.
